Anne Breick (* 1961 in Münster ) is a German percussionist , band leader , composer , studio musician , music teacher , lecturer and music journalist .  

Life

The daughter of a blacksmith and trained tourism specialist learned the flute at the age of eight, then the piano and later rhythm and jazz guitar. As a tour guide, she met the first drum in Morocco in 1984, which from then on determined her life.

In 1984 she began her training in African , Afro-Cuban and Brazilian percussion with study visits to Cuba (Havana and Santiago de Cuba) and Brazil (Salvador and Olinda). She was trained u. a. from Khalifi-Dance-Ensemble (Ghana / D), Jürgen Fischer (Münster), John Santos from Machete Ensemble (USA), Dudu Tucci (Brazil / Berlin), Robyn Schulkowsky (USA / D), José Cortijo (E / D) .

At the same time, her stage career began in 1984 with the women's percussion band "Black Magic Women". At the beginning of the 1990s she worked as “Aye Bee Groove” with trendy DJanes and drummed live to “ house music ” at the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Frankfurt and appeared in the European Gay Games.

In 1990 founded Anne with the Breick Latin - radio -Bassistin Uli Pfeifer and soul singer and songwriter Elke Voltz the World Music -Formation "Kick la Luna", which in 1992 had their first appearance. The band now also includes the Brazilian drummer Angela Frontera (since 1998) and the salsa keyboardist Christiane Sattler (since 2016). The women's world music band toured with live concerts in Europe, the USA and Canada and released nine CDs. Kick La Luna worked a. a. together with guitarist Jutta Keller (1992 to 2006), Brazilian musician Zélia Fonseca (since 2007) and producers Elke Diepenbeck (1994), Christina Fuchs (1996) and Edo Zanki (1998 to 2008). The presenter, author and radio announcer from HR 3, Volker Rebell , who supports Anne Breick and her projects and bands, was a fan from the start .

In 1998 Anne Breick composed , arranged and staged the garbage percussion formation “Ten on Tons” on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Frankfurt garbage disposal. “Ten on Tons” play on rubbish bins, later samba instruments, cajones, congas and djembés were added. Now the ukuleles , helicon and soprano saxophone provided the melodies, combined with polyphonic ethnic songs.

Other bands in which Anne Breick participated are “Laras Affairs” together with Dora Michel and Claudia Zinserling (2005–2007) and HaCaBa with Barbara Schirmer and Uli Pfeifer (2006–2008). She also initiated one of the first female samba bands in Germany, the "Female Samba Connection" (1997-2005) with 25 percussionists, for whom she composed the rhythms.

The association “Women make music e. V. ”brought Anne Breick to Frankfurt in 1989 as a member of the board. She worked on the board from 1989 to 2014 on a voluntary basis and contributed to the establishment of the “Women's Music Office” in Frankfurt, which is committed to networking and supporting female musicians in POP and jazz music in Germany and Europe. In this context, she also acted as editor and music journalist for the women's music magazine “Rundbrief”. The newsletter began as an information sheet from “Frauenmachen Musik e. V. ”and was further developed into a women's music magazine by Anne Breick and Sabine Kemna and published from 1996 under the title“ Melodiva ”. 50 print editions were produced and distributed throughout Germany through bookshops and subscribers. To this day they form a documentation of the musicians in the pop music business. All editions (circular and Melodiva) are listed and available in the archive of the German National Library in Frankfurt. When print production was discontinued in 2001 with a special issue, Anne Breick ensured that it was continued as “Germany's 1st online women's music magazine Melodiva Net Club”.

From 2005 to 2015 Anne Breick developed and directed the two-year percussion training and further education “ALL AROUND GROOVES” in 4 modules (AFRO, LATIN, BRASIL, POP-MUSIC), recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Culture. Since 2006 Anne Breick has also been a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) in Frankfurt am Main, where she is responsible for the training of music teachers, and teaches in the department of music education with a focus on rhythmic basics, Latin percussion (cajon / conga) , Brazilian percussion (samba) and pop music rhythms.

From 2012 to 2015 Anne Breick developed artistic and cultural percussion workshops for disadvantaged young people between the ages of 15 and 25 for Joblinge gAG FrankfurtRheinMain . She also works as a volunteer mentor for the job people.
