Annette Merrild

Annette Merrild (born February 21, 1972 in Herning ) is a Danish contemporary artist who lives and works in Barcelona .

life and work

Annette Merrild was born on February 21, 1972 in Herning, Denmark. After finishing school in Denmark, she decided to study painting . She enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1992 to 1993 . From 1995 Annette Merrild went to Mombasa , Kenya , for a year , and received instruction in the wood carving techniques of traditional tribal art at the Cooperation Akamba Handcrafts Industry. She then moved to Germany and matriculated from 1996 to 2002 at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts . She learned under Werner Büttner and Bernhard Blume and completed her studies as a master class student . In 2004 she received the honorary diploma from Franz Erhard Walther . This was followed by study and work stays in Berlin , Hamburg , New York and Copenhagen before she settled in Barcelona.

Annette Merrild works very conceptually in her pictures . She makes use of various artistic techniques such as collage , action painting or photography and combines different materials with one another, including neon installations , pigments and glue . Since the beginning of her artistic career, she has dealt with the subject of people in society. A special focus is also on shedding light on the changing role of women.

She is friends with the Danish bestseller writer Jussi Adler-Olsen , who made her paintings part of a literary scene in his novel Verheißung - Der Grenzenlos .

Works by her are in museums, including the Art Museum of Estonia and Istanbul Museum of Modern Art .
