The Essen-Nord junction (formerly Essen-Nord motorway junction ) connects the A 42 with the B 224 . It has the shape of a clover leaf and is located in the north of the Essen district of Altenessen , south of the Rhine-Herne Canal . Both streets are four lanes at the junction.

Expansion of the B 224 to the A 52

With the planned expansion of the B 224 to the A 52 between Essen, Gladbeck and Gelsenkirchen Buer -West, the Essen-Nord junction will be rededicated as the Essen-Nord motorway junction.
