The Neersen motorway junction (abbreviation: AK Neersen ; short form: Neersen cross ) is a motorway junction in North Rhine-Westphalia in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region . It connects the federal highway 44 ( Aachen - Kassel ) with the federal highway 52 ( Mönchengladbach - Marl ). It shares this property with the Düsseldorf-Nord motorway junction .
geography
The motorway junction is located in the city of Willich in the Viersen district , on the city limits of Mönchengladbach . The closest districts are the eponymous Neersen and Schiefbahn (part of Willich), as well as the airport and Bettrath-Hoven in Mönchengladbach area. It is located about 5 km northeast of Mönchengladbach city center, about 20 km west of Düsseldorf and about 15 km southwest of Krefeld .
The Neersen motorway junction has junction number 22 on the A 44 and number 10 on the A 52.
history
After the opening of the new Rhine bridge at Düsseldorf Airport, the connections to and from the A 52 in the direction of Roermond were expanded at the motorway junction. Two ramps have been closed since then. Drivers who came from Mönchengladbach-Ost could not take the A 52 to Roermond, vehicles coming from Krefeld could no longer change to the A 52 to Düsseldorf , but had to follow a detour route.
In order to be able to use these connections again, new bridge structures were necessary, which were built in two construction phases. The first expansion phase began in January 2006, which is why the autobahn was only passable on one lane per lane at the cross. The Landesbetrieb Straßen.NRW expected the work to be completed in December 2007. Due to problems with the award of the contract, the end of February 2009 was announced as a new date for completion. The final completion was then delayed until March 2009. In October 2011, due to poor asphalt grip in the area of the Spange from the direction of Roermond in the direction of Krefeld, more accidents occurred, which led to a temporary closure of a lane.
Design and state of development
Both motorways have four lanes. All connecting ramps are single-track.
The motorway junction was laid out as a clover leaf with a windmill ramp , a design that is unique in Germany.
