Anselmo Zarza Bernal

Anselmo Zarza Bernal (born June 4, 1916 in Atlixco , Mexico , † April 15, 2014 in Puebla ) was Bishop of León in Mexico.

Life

Anselmo Zarza attended the seminary in León and studied as a collegiate of the Pontifical Latin American College "Pius" Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he was ordained a priest on April 8, 1939 .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on May 24, 1962 as the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Linares . The Archbishop of Puebla de los Ángeles , Octaviano Márquez y Tóriz , donated him episcopal ordination on August 22nd of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Monterrey , Alfonso Espino y Silva , and Emilio Abascal y Salmerón , auxiliary bishop in Puebla de los Ángeles.

As Bishop of Linares, he participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

On January 13, 1966 he was by Pope Paul VI. appointed Bishop of León . He founded over 40 parishes, including in Nuestra Señora del Carmen (1971), San Martín de Porres (1971), Señor de la Misericordia de la Conquista (1974), Nuestra Señora del Rosario en la colonia San Nicolás (1974), Santa Clara de Asís (1975), San Pedro de los Hernández (1975), Santa Margarita María Alacoque (1975) and Divina Providencia (1975).

On January 4, 1992, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation because of his age.
