Anthony Harris Bennett (born March 14, 1993 in Toronto ) is a Canadian basketball player . He was first selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2013 NBA Draft , but then only played four more years in the NBA . In 2017 he moved to Fenerbahçe Ülker in the Turkish league at the beginning of the year . After three shorter stations, including the NBA G-League , he's since July 2019 without a club .

Bennett is seen by many fans and experts as a disappointment who never lived up to his high draft position and the expectations that came with it; he is now considered one of the largest draft busts (draft flops) in NBA history.

Career

Bennett grew up near Toronto and Brampton until he was 16 . To improve his career opportunities as a basketball player, he then played for high school teams in West Virginia and Nevada in the United States.

After attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for a year , Bennett signed up for the NBA draft . He averaged 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for his college team.

NBA

In the 2013 NBA draft , surprisingly, he and not Nerlens Noel was selected in first position. He is the first Canadian to do this. In his first year for the Cavaliers , Bennett failed to live up to expectations, scoring just 4.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 52 games. In addition, he only hit 35.6% of his field throws.

After his first year with the Cavs, Bennett was sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a three-team trade with Andrew Wiggins . In return, Kevin Love moved to Cleveland , among others .

Bennett couldn't convince the Timberwolves either. He scored 5.2 points and got 3.8 rebounds in 57 games. Therefore, Bennett was released from his contract by the Wolves on August 24, 2015.

Subsequently, the Power Forward signed a one-year contract with the local Toronto Raptors . However, Bennett disappointed again and was summoned several times to the Raptors' farm team , the Raptors 905 . In March 2016, his Toronto contract was terminated after averaging 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds per game in 19 games.

In the summer of 2016, Bennett got another chance in the NBA and joined the Brooklyn Nets . Bennett came to the Nets to 23 missions and scored 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds on average. As with his previous NBA positions, Bennett was unable to perform as expected and was released early on January 9, 2017 by the Nets.

Since 2017

In January 2017 he joined Fenerbahce SK . At Ülker, Bennett received a one-year contract with an option for an additional year.

National team

Bennett made his debut in the Pan American Games for the Canadian national basketball team . With Canada he won the silver medal and scored 15.6 points and 10.4 rebounds on average.

At the American Basketball Championship in 2015 , Bennett won the bronze medal with Canada.
