Anthony Lamar King (born January 22, 1985 in Durham , North Carolina ) is a native American basketball player . After studying in his home country, King began a professional career in Europe, where, in addition to Greece , he played in Germany and Cyprus in particular . Here King also obtained citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus , for whose national team he also participated in the qualification for the 2013 European Basketball Championship . Since the 2011/12 season, King has been playing in the top German division for the Dragons from the Artland community .
Career
In 2003 King from North Carolina went to study at the University of Miami in Coral Gables ( Florida ), where he first played for the Hurricanes team in the Big East Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) before joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2004 (ACC) switched. After a moderate, last Big East season in 2003/04, the Hurricanes achieved a positive balance in the ACC after a coach change in 2005 and 2006, but received only one invitation to the National Invitation Tournament , in which they advanced to the quarter-finals in 2006. In the 2006/07 season, his originally last college season, King injured himself after a few games and had to sit out the rest of the season. The Hurricanes had a clearly negative season balance at the end of the season and no invitation to play in the postseason . After a reform of the NCAA's eligibility rules, King was able to extend his college career by another season, as his previous year was counted as suspended because of the few missions. The Hurricanes earned a clearly positive season balance with Jack McClinton in the 2007/08 season and a balanced balance in the ACC was enough to qualify for the national NCAA finals , in which they were just three points apart in the second round favored Longhorns from the University of Texas at Austin .
King could not recommend himself for a professional contract in his home country and began his professional career in the basketball Bundesliga in 2008/09 with the Deutsche Bank Skyliners from Frankfurt am Main . However, the Skyliners lost at the end of the season in the first play-off round for the championship against the eventual title winner EWE Baskets Oldenburg . For the following season, King moved to Cyprus to ETHA from the suburb of Egkomi in the capital Nicosia . With this club he won the double of championship and cup in the second season 2011 . These were the first two title wins for the club. He then played in April 2011 for Aris from Thessaloniki in the championship play-offs of the Greek A1 Ethniki , in which Aris lost in the semifinals in three games against the main round first Olympiacos .
For the basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 King returned to Germany and played for the Artland Dragons, who moved into the championship play-offs as fourth-placed team, where they were defeated by defending champion Brose Baskets in three games in the semifinals . In the following season they flew sixth in the main round in the first round against the previous runner-up ratiopharm Ulm from the competition. In the summer of 2012, King had taken part in qualifying for the 2013 European Basketball Championship after obtaining the citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus for their national team , but in which they lost all eight qualifying matches and could not qualify for the finals. At the end of May 2013 he took part with the Cypriot national team in the Games of the Small States of Europe 2013 , in which Cyprus with top scorer King defeated hosts Luxembourg 79:67 in the final. The 2014/2015 season ended for the Artland Dragons outside the playoff placements and the club then announced the withdrawal from the Beko BBL and the termination of all player contracts.
Since December 20, 2016 he has been under contract with the Rheinstars Cologne in the ProA .
