Anton Einsle
Anton Einsle (born January 30, 1801 in Vienna ; † March 10, 1871 ibid) was an Austrian painter .
Life
Anton Einsle was born in Vienna in 1801 as the son of the surgical instrument maker Matthias Einsle and his wife, the musician's daughter Elisabeth Burghuber. At the age of 13 he began studying at the Vienna Academy under the direction of the sculptor and painter Josef Klieber . In 1817, at the age of 16, he received his first prize and painted his first works on commission.
His first known miniatures and portraits in oil as commissioned works from circles of manufacturers were created in 1827. His works were represented at major exhibitions in Prague , Dresden and, from 1830, in Vienna. Einsle worked for several years in Prague from 1829 and in Budapest from 1832 . He soon became a popular portrait painter of the high nobility and public figures. In 1838 he was appointed court painter to the imperial family and returned to Vienna, where he got a large studio in the Hofburg . One of his numerous employees was Eduard von Engerth , who later became the director of the court museum . As the official portraitist of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I , Anton Einsle portrayed the young monarch about thirty times during his first two years of reign.
Works by Anton Einsle are represented in many museums in Austria and abroad. His works, which today fetch five-digit euros at auctions, also found numerous enthusiasts in private collections, for example that of Gianni Versace .
