Beginnings

Čolak started playing soccer at SGV Freiberg in 1997 , moved to the youth department of the Stuttgarter Kickers in 2000 , returned to Freiberg for two seasons and worked for one season in the youth department of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Karlsruher SC . For the second team he came to a game in the Regionalliga Süd . In the home game on March 24, 2012 (25th matchday) he was the decisive player against FC Bayern Alzenau with the winning goal to make it 1-0 in the 78th minute - five minutes after his substitution for Marcus Piossek .

Professional debut at 1. FC Nürnberg

On July 1, 2012 1. FC Nürnberg Čolak signed, for whose second team he was initially used and played 32 of 38 regional league games. In the following season he played six times in the Bundesliga for the professional team and made his debut on October 19, 2013 (9th matchday) in a 1-1 away game against Eintracht Frankfurt with a substitute for Tomáš Pekhart in the 78th minute. In February 2014 he extended the term of his contract to June 30, 2016 and moved up to the first team.

Lechia Gdańsk

At the beginning of the 2014/15 season - in the meantime relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga and after Čolak had already played a second division game - a loan deal was agreed with the Polish first division club Lechia Gdańsk until June 30, 2015. Then Lechia Gdańsk took the option to buy and acquired the transfer rights to Čolak, who in turn had no interest in signing a new employment contract, so that the transfer rights remained with 1. FC Nürnberg.

Various positions as a loan player from Hoffenheim

In July 2015, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim acquired the transfer rights to Čolak. There, Čolak is part of the so-called “perspective squad”, which includes players who are initially supposed to collect match practice by borrowing in order to later integrate them into their own squad or transfer them profitably. For the 2015/16 season , Čolak was loaned to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the 2nd Bundesliga .

For the 2016/17 season , Čolak moved to Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98 after several weeks of trial training on loan . Here he scored his first two Bundesliga goals against Werder Bremen on matchday 6 .

For the following 2017/18 season , Čolak was awarded to FC Ingolstadt 04 , relegated to the Bundesliga . There he made his debut on August 4, 2017, the 2nd match day of the 2017/18 season, in the 0-1 defeat against SV Sandhausen , when he came on for Stefan Kutschke in the 71st minute of the game .

HNK Rijeka

After Čolak had only made six appearances in the second division by the end of 2017 without scoring his own as well as one appearance (one goal) in the second team in the fourth-class Bavarian regional league , the loan was ended prematurely on January 11, 2018 and Čolak until June 30 Awarded to Croatian first division club HNK Rijeka in 2019 . By the end of the 2017/18 season , he was used 16 times in the league (14 times in the starting line-up) and scored 6 goals. In the 2018/19 season, Čolak scored 12 goals in 24 appearances (16 starting XI). For the 2019/20 season , the club finally acquired the transfer rights to Čolak, who received a new contract with a term until June 30, 2022. He scored 20 goals in 32 league games (27 times from the start) and was top scorer together with Mijo Caktaš and Mirko Marić .

National team

Čolak has already played international matches for the youth teams of the Croatian Association (HNS) . He made his debut for the U-18 national team on May 2, 2011 in Bánovce nad Bebravou in the 2-0 defeat by Norway. For the U-19 national team he made his debut on February 8, 2011 in Umag in the 1-1 game against the Irish selection, where he scored his first international goal with the opening goal in the third minute. With the U-19 national team, Čolak took part in the European Championship in Estonia in July 2012 and played all three group matches . For the U-20 national team , he completed three international matches, his first on December 8, 2011 in Dekani in a 1-0 win against the selection of Slovenia.
