Antonius Tencalla (* around 1560 in Bissone , Switzerland; † 1628 in Kaisersteinbruch , today Burgenland-Hungary ) was a court stone mason and sculptor of the Renaissance . He was a member of the Swiss-Italian artist family Tencalla of architects , painters , sculptors and stonemasons .

Live and act

In the new quarry on Leithaberg there was a strong influx of Italian-Swiss stonemasons from the 1550s, who are counted among the Magistri Comacini . The necessary fortifications were followed by the call and prestige of Emperor Maximilian II , here near Vienna, to erect a monumental building in Simmering. A “ Villa suburbana ” was planned, the most important Renaissance building north of the Alps, corresponding to the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. The brothers Bernhard and Antonius Tencalla came around 1575 as young journeymen and worked for the masters and also brothers Antonius and Pietro Solari . Abbot Ulrich Molitor from Heiligenkreuz Abbey granted the stonemason and sculptor Antonius Solari a new quarry in 1584.

Rohrau Castle, new building 1599–1605

Master stonemason Antonius Tencalla in the Bavarian quarry on Leythaberg set off door and window stones given away at Rohrau Castle , a series of snails into the new building, including the cornice on the arbor and also five stone window heads, the stone pillory in Markt Rohrau, the ashlar stones of the New Gate on the outside Castle including cornice, most recently a water well inside the castle. The well-born baron Karl von Harrach had his caretaker Hans Rößler paid and paid for the 261 guilders and 21 kreuzers.

Conflict abbot with masters Murato and Tencalla

Together with master Giacomo Murato , he refused to accept the abbot of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey as a basic authority , but only the Roman-German emperor . They derived that from the name - Your Imperial Majesty Quarry on Leithaberg . This resulted in correspondence from Emperor Rudolf II , represented by Lower Austria , from 1607 . -Government and Abbot Paul Schönebner from Heiligenkreuz Abbey .

Imperial charter 1614

In 1609 a compromise was reached, the local glory was awarded to the Lower Austria Chamber, the basic glory to the Heiligenkreuz Abbey. The new emperor Matthias confirmed this in 1614 in a document.

Confirmation of the independent quarter drawer 1617

The craft regulations of 1615, which Emperor Matthias confirmed in 1617, included the quarter shops in Baden in Lower Austria, on the Hungarian side in the imperial quarry.
