The Antonov An-181 was a single-engine, two-seat Soviet experimental aircraft designed to explore canal wings . It was officially called Isdelije (product) 181.

History and construction

The Antonov An-181 is an experimental aircraft that was built by OKB Antonow in Kiev in the late 1980s. Due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, the project was canceled due to a lack of funding. An interesting feature of the aircraft is its unusual arched wings, the so-called canal wings. The aircraft has two seats next to each other, a conventional fixed landing gear, a V-tail unit and high- wing wing, which are provided with a canal wing in the area of the propellers . The drive takes place via shafts and deflection gears that transfer the power from the engine in the fuselage to the two-bladed propellers. The aircraft received the aircraft marks СССР-190101 and is on display in the National Museum of Aviation of Ukraine. Willard Ray Custer had already built aircraft with the same wing concept in the USA.
