The Antonov An-20 was a Soviet cargo aircraft project .

The as Hochdecker designed aircraft should of two propeller turbines by Kuznetsov (15,000 WPS), the m on opposite coaxial 4-blade propeller with 6.40 diameter interact with each 11,000 kW, are driven. The machine was specially designed for the transport of military material - such as a T-54 weighing up to 40 tons. In addition, it was planned to drop loads of up to 16 tons via the loading ramp.

The loading space of 3.6 m × 3.50 m × 21 m (BHL) could be loaded via this loading ramp, which is 3.8 m wide and 10.1 m long. The height of the chassis could be adjusted pneumatically to make loading and unloading easier.

Two 23 mm cannons were provided in the stern as defensive armament.

A model was executed in June 1958, but work on the machine was stopped in August 1960. The design was pursued, however, there was a suggestion in 1960 to equip the An-20 with four engines (model Antonow WT-22 ). The four engines and the modified wings should allow a range with 50 tons of payload of 4000 km. An APU was also provided in the wings . There were now four main landing gear legs with four wheels each to reduce ground pressure . The cargo space was now 4.4 m × 4.4 m × 30 m (BHL) and made it possible to carry a larger number of different weapon systems.
