The Antonov An-218 was a project of the Ukrainian aircraft manufacturer Antonow .
development
The design called for a low-wing aircraft - passenger aircraft with two jet engines prior to that as a large-capacity aircraft for medium-range similar to the Airbus A330 was designed. The design work began in 1991.
The detailed solutions of the An-218 were based on those of the Antonow An-124 and Antonow An-70 models as well as the Tupolew Tu-204 .
The landing gear design and the performance data were designed so that the machine could be used from the same airfields as a Tupolev Tu-154 M. In addition to comfort, freight loading and unloading and service friendliness, particular attention was paid to fuel consumption.
Variants from 200 to around 400 passengers were planned. The avionics were based on the most modern standards up to Cat. IIIA ICAO. The cockpit should be equipped with six screens and automated accordingly.
The original schedule called for the first flight in 1994, and certification should take place in 1995. However, the project was previously discontinued.
