The Antonov An-140 is a Ukrainian short-haul passenger aircraft in shoulder-wing design made by Antonow . It has a retractable landing gear . It is propelled by two turboprop engines . The machine has an APU and performs well at high or particularly hot airports (+ 45 ° C, 1700 m). Take-off and landing on unpaved runways are possible. It also has an air-conditioned pressurized cabin . The machine is intended to replace the Antonov An-24 and its variants. Despite external similarities, the machine has been completely redeveloped.

history

Development of the type began in 1993. The first flight took place on September 17, 1997 . The flight tests of the two prototypes dragged on until January 2000. In the meantime, minor changes had to be made to the tail unit.

The first production aircraft flew on October 11, 1999. The type certificate was issued on April 25, 2000. A license agreement for the construction of 80 machines was concluded with the Iranian HESA works in Isfahan / Iran . The first Iranian plane flew on February 7, 2001, it was made from prefabricated parts.

Even Russia has acquired the production rights. The machines are built in Samara .

The first use in the scheduled service took place in March 2002 with Odessa Airlines .

One variant is the An-140-100 with an enlarged wingspan.

The production of the type was stopped at Aviakor in Samara in 2015, the reason given by the manufacturer is the termination of deliveries from Ukraine.
