Anwynn is a melodic death metal band from Belgium founded in 2007. The name comes from the Otherworld in Celtic (Welsh) mythology. They are currently under contract with the label M&O Music , where their first studio album Forbidden Songs has just been released. They also released a demo , Behind the Veil , and an EP , Newydd Wawr .
history
Foundation (2007)
Prior to the formation of Anwynn, Wallace, Mathias and Fred played together in Arawn, a heavy metal band. When Arawn broke up in December 2006, Wallace and Fred decided to continue their adventure together and founded Anwynn. Since they wanted to continue playing traditional heavy metal, they first looked for a singer for the band. But they quickly decided to give every candidate a chance and began to let singers audition. In February 2007 bassist Vincent "Wobi" Van Loo joined. Shortly thereafter, mezzo-soprano singer Amandine Blanquet completed the line-up.
First shows and Behind the Veil (2008-2009)
Anwynn then played their first concert at VitamineZ in Wavre , where the band also received the audience award. Then they played at Angel's Rock I in Uccle , in B52 is Ostend and at the Factory in Liège , as well as in other bars and cafes. In 2008 their first demo, Behind the Veil , was released. After that there were a few changes in the line-up: Mathias split from the band and was replaced by Jeremy Laitem (Sekhmet), and Vladimir took a new position behind the keyboard. Anwynn slowly developed into a symphonic metal band.
Newydd Wawr and new cast (2010-2011)
2010 was a year for many, brought about by four new members: Astrid Kaiserman on keyboard, Benoît Becker on rhythm guitar, Vincent "McBouc" Carton on microphone and Forster Perelsztejn - later replaced by Laurent Verheylewegen - on drums. Anwynn started writing darker and more aggressive songs. So they slowly developed into a melodic death metal band with symphonic elements. The band announced that their first EP, Newydd Wawr , would be out in December. Anwynn played alongside headliners The Scorpions at the Power Prog & Metal Festival 2010 in April , and in October with Arch Enemy , Epica , The Agonist and many others at the Metal Female Voices Festival 2010. In early 2011, Laurent and Benoît left the band due to artistic differences.
Forbidden Songs (since 2011)
In July 2011 Julien "Jukka" Huyssens joined the band on rhythm guitar. With this line-up they announced that they would record their first studio album Forbidden Songs in October . The album was recorded, mixed and mastered in the Manic Studio by Olivier Wittenberg ( Manic Movement ), who can also be heard on the album as a studio drummer. It was released by the French record company M&O Music on April 23, 2012 and received good reviews from the music press. Then Anwynn toured with a new drummer, Florent "Flush" Boudry ", Skeptical Minds and Izegrim with Diabulus in Musica as part of their The Wanderer Tour . They also played at various Belgian festivals, including the DarkMoon Festival, RommelRock 2012 with Grave Digger , Sirenia and Cripper and were also invited by the Danish power metallers Seven Thorns to play with them in Flensburg.The band announced that they would perform at the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Metal Female Voices Festival on October 20, 2012 with Lacuna, among others Coil , Arch Enemy , Delain and Arkona would play.

music
Anwynn combines different styles of music, with most of the songs characterized by traditional death metal riffs, heavy metal-oriented solos and powerful orchestration. Amandine's mezzo-soprano is complemented by McBouc's guttural vocals .

Anwynn is influenced by various European and American metal bands, including Amon Amarth , Cannibal Corpse , Nightwish , Iron Maiden , Hatebreed , Machine Head , Dimmu Borgir , Arch Enemy , Leaves' Eyes and Tristania .
Texts
The lyrics of Anwynn's songs are mainly about Celtic mythology , but also about piracy in "Across the Seven Seas" or the conquest of the New World in "Conquistador". Other songs, most notably "Free" and "At the Gates of Madness," relate to themes of psychology.
