Apocalyptic Love is the second studio album by Guns-n'-Rose and former Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash . In contrast to its predecessor, the album was not recorded with multiple singers. Only Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy can be heard on the album. Other musicians were also the bassist Todd Kerns and the drummer Brent Fitz (called The Conspirators , in German: The Co-Conspirators ).

History of origin

On the tour of Slash's self-titled debut album 2010/2011 Myles Kennedy was represented as a singer. He had also performed on two songs in the all-star collaboration . Slash therefore decided to record his second album with Kennedy. Since he only recorded the album with one singer, he wasn't sure for a long time whether he should just release the album under his name or give the project a new name.

Work on the album began in June 2011. By December, three finished songs were titled Bad Rain , Standing in the Sun and Halo , which Slash described as "very tough". The work was completed in February 2012 and a little later, May 22nd was given as the release date in the USA. The album tour started in March.

On February 27th, the first single You're a Lie was released and made it to number 23 on Billboard's rock song list . The accompanying music video was posted on May 15th. Slash released the album's tracklist on March 5th. Other singles were Standing in the Sun , Bad Rain and Anastasia . There were also music videos for all of the singles - except for Standing in the Sun -.

Texts

All lyrics were written by Slash and Myles Kennedy. Only for No More Heroes is producer Eric Valentine also named as the author. According to his own statement, some texts are about Kennedy's overcoming drug addiction.

reception

Michael Edele from Laut.de described Apocalyptic Love as an almost “perfect summer album” that always sounds “organic and authentic”. He awarded four stars out of five. Peter Kubaschk from Powermetal.de stated that the album is primarily considered a hard rock album and “with great songs that are refined by a great guitarist and a no less great singer”. He mentioned You're a Lie and One last Thrill as highlights . He awarded 8.5 out of ten possible points. Jakob Kranz from Metal Hammer said that the departure of many guest singers would have done the album good, but thought that not every song would "pop". He awarded five out of seven possible points.

Track list

The Deluxe Edition also contains a DVD with documentation about the album recordings. The German magazine Metal Hammer also published an Extended Play in the June issue . It contains two songs by Apocalyptic Love and four unreleased bonus tracks.
