Apostasia latifolia is a plant type from the genus Apostasia in the family of orchid (Orchidaceae). It comes from the Malay Peninsula .

description

Apostasia latifolia grows as perennial herbaceous plants that reach heights of up to 35 cm. It forms a rhizome ; however, the roots also arise from the bases of the lower leaves . The roots are 2.5 to 3 mm in diameter. The leaves are arranged at intervals on the stem axis and are 10 to 30 cm long and 1.8 to 3 cm wide and the extension at the tip of the leaf measures 3 to 6 mm. The lanceolate to oval-shaped leaf blade ends in a thread-like drawn tip and contains 30 to 50 longitudinal veins, five of which are clearly visible.

The paniculate inflorescence has up to five side branches, is sloping and contains 13 to 27  flowers . The flowering period extends from August to December. On the inflorescence stem there are no bracts , the bracts of the flowers are narrow oval, pointed, 3 to 8 mm long and 1 to 2 mm wide, they also end in a thread-shaped, 0.5 mm long tip. The flowers are 1.4 to 2.4 cm in size. Sepals and petals hardly differ, they are each 3.7 to 5 mm long and 0.8 mm wide, they are bent back and have a small tip. The lip is indistinguishable from the other petals. The ovary is 1 to 1.8 cm long and 1.5 to 1.8 mm in diameter. The column consists of two fertile stamens and the stylus , which are all fused together at the base. The column becomes 0.8 to 1.2 mm long and is not bent. The stamens are 2.1 to 3.8 mm long, they are surmounted by the style by 0.2 to 0.7 mm. The stamens are only free for a short distance, the dust bags stick together. The scar is indistinct two or three lobes.

The light green capsule fruit measures 11 to 18 mm in length and 1.7 to 1.8 mm in diameter.

Occurrence

Apostasia latifolia is native to the south of the Malay Peninsula. Locations are known from Perak , Pahang and Malacca . The locations are in higher forests.

Systematics

The first description of Apostasia latifolia was in 1889 by Robert Allen Rolfe in Journal of the Linnean Society, Botany , 25, pp. 242-243. Within the genus Apostasia de Vogel 1969 Apostasia latifolia assigned to the section Adactylus ; In this section, in contrast to the second section, Apostasia, there are two fertile stamens and no staminodium . According to R. Govaerts, Apostasia elliptica J.J.Sm. not a separate species, but a synonym of Apostasia latifolia Rolfe .
