He had two younger siblings, Anja Bjørshol and Espen Bjørshol. In 1999 he published his first volume of short stories Trist som faen [Sad as Hell]; after that he published other books.

Reception in Norway

In the 1990s, Behn and some of his up-and-coming young artist friends declared themselves the "New Wine". His first book Trist som faen [Sad As Hell] received positive reviews in Norway in 1999. Since the turn of the century and his wedding to Princess Märtha Louise, Behn was often portrayed as a pompous poseur in the Norwegian media for years. Known for "tough public feuds" with critics and artists around the turn of the century, he was often ridiculed in the media. In 2001 he challenged the critic Kjetil Rolness to a duel with a pistol or sword. Even his relative Ole Paus called him in 2002 "Prins Kvaps von und zu Quasi" (for example: "Prince Dummkopf von und zu Quasi"). Behn later commented on how he was rated in Norway: "For a lot of people, I'm a fool." Over time, he and his artistic work was judged more positively. Art historian Øivind Lorentz Storm Bjerke said that Behn "is sometimes portrayed as a fun amateur who suddenly decided to get into art, but this is not right [...] he belongs to a group of visual artists who have no formal training, but who are active in various art forms. " After his death, he was also lauded for being a colorful personality and for his personal qualities.

Private

In 2001 he got engaged to Princess Märtha Louise of Norway. On May 24, 2002, the wedding took place in Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim , where Kåre Conradi Behns was best man. With the marriage, Behn was not awarded an official title and he also did not perform any duties for the royal family.
