Ari Helenius
Ari Helenius (born September 3, 1944 in Oulu ) is a Finnish biochemist .
Life
Ari Helenius studied biochemistry at the University of Helsinki . In 1973 he received his doctorate (" PhD ") with Kai Simons in Helsinki . From 1975 to 1981 he was a researcher at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg . After an associate professorship at the US Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven , he was appointed full professor at the Faculty of Cell Biology there in 1983 . From 1992 to 1997 he was dean of the faculty.
In 1997 he switched to the chair of biochemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich) . From 1999 to 2003 he was head ("Dean") of the Faculty of Biochemistry.
Act
The research focus of Helenius lies in the areas of protein folding and virus-cell interactions, in particular his work on the mechanisms of the cell is authoritative worldwide.
In 1999 he was made a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) , in 2001 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina in the section Biochemistry and Biophysics.
