The Arklow M-Class is a six-unit class of bulk carrier operated by the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping.
history
The ship class was designed by Korea Maritime Services Co. in Seoul and Conoship International in Groningen and built at the Korean shipyards Mokpo Shipbuilding Industry Co. and Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering Co.

The ships are from a four-stroke - six-cylinder - diesel engine of the manufacturer Caterpillar : 5,400 (MaK 6M43C) kW power driven. The motors act on a controllable pitch propeller via a reduction gear . The ships can thus reach 14.5 kn . A shaft generator with 1000 kW output as well as two diesel generators with 438 kW each and a harbor and emergency generator with 100 kW output are available for the power supply. The ships are equipped with a bow thruster with 750 kW power.
The deckhouse is in the rear of the ships. It has six decks from the main deck (including the compass deck above the bridge deck). On the main deck there are primarily storage rooms, the engine control room , a workshop, the steering gear room , the room for the emergency generator and a changing room for the crew . On the poop deck above there are u. a. the galley as well as the mess rooms, lounges for the crew and an office room. The boat and officer decks house the cabins for a total of 14 crew members as well as a hospital. The bridge deck houses the bridge of the ship and the two open bridge wings . The top deck is the compass deck (the deck is also known as the observation deck ). This is where the magnetic compass , the radar antennas and other antennas as well as the aft ship's mast are located .
The ships of the class are equipped with a free-fall lifeboat, which is located behind the deck superstructure and chimney. It is accessible from the officers' deck. There is also an open lifeboat on the starboard side of the boat deck that can be moved using a crane. Another crane is on the port side of the boat deck. With the cranes z. B. Spare parts and provisions are taken on board.
There are four holds in front of the deckhouse . The holds are closed with folding hatch covers. Except for hold 1, they are box-shaped. Cargo hold 1 tapers towards the bow . The hatch of cargo hold 1 is 15.40 × 12.60 m, that of cargo hold 2 and 3 each 23.10 × 17.60 m and that of cargo hold 4 is 15.40 × 17.60 m. The rooms are 12.25 m high. The capacities of the holds are 3,132 m³ (hold 1), 5,762 m³ (hold 2), 5,628 m³ (hold 3) and 3,587 m³ (hold 4), giving a total capacity of 18,109 m³. The tank ceiling in the holds can be loaded with 20 t / m², the hatch cover with 1.8 t / m².
