The Arklow V-Class is a ten-unit coaster class of the “Eco Trader 5000” type (also referred to as “5100 DWAT Bodewes Trader” or “Eco Trader 5150”). There is an option for five more units. The ships were built at the Dutch shipyard Royal Bodewes in Hoogezand for the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping.

description

The ships are from a four-stroke - six-cylinder - diesel engine of the manufacturer Caterpillar driven. The MaK 6M25 motors have an output of 1,740 kW and act on a controllable  pitch propeller via a reduction gear . The ship can thus reach around 12.5  kn . Two Sisu diesel engines, each with an output of 154 kW, which drive two Stamford generators , and a shaft generator with an output of 348 kW are available to generate electricity . A diesel generator with 66 kW output was installed for port and emergency operations. The ships are equipped with an electrically powered bow thruster with an output of 300 kW.

The deckhouse is in the rear of the ships. It was set up for a crew of nine . The hold is in front of the deckhouse . The hatch is 60 m long and 12.7 m wide. It is closed with pontoon hatch covers that can be moved using a hatch trolley. The cargo space is box-shaped over almost its entire length and only tapers in the foremost meters. The ships are equipped with a bulkhead that can be erected in eight positions. The cargo space is 6,258 m³. The tank top can be loaded with 15 t / m², the hatch cover with 1.75 t / m².

The ships have a pointed bow shape without a bulge bow ( Groot Cross-Bow ), which should lead to a reduced water resistance and thus lower fuel consumption as well as improved sea behavior. The bow shape was changed to the effect in the area of the water vessel from the third new building that typical on the Cross-Bow, reclined Steven has been omitted.
