The Arklow W-Class is a three-unit former class of ships owned by the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping.

history

The ships of the class were on the 2003 and 2004 Japanese shipyard Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation in Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture built for the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping. They were the shipping company's first ships that were not built in European shipyards.

The ships were sold and renamed in 2016 and 2017. The Arklow Wave was converted into a cement freighter in 2017 .

description

The ships are from a four-stroke - six-cylinder - diesel engine the manufacturer Wärtsilä (type: 6L38B) with 4,320  kW power driven. The motor acts on a controllable pitch propeller via a reduction gear . The ships reach a speed of around 13  knots . They are equipped with a bow thruster with an output of 526 kW.

A shaft generator with an output of 1,000 kW is available for power generation. Two diesel generators were also installed, each with a Yanmar diesel engine with 550 kW power driving a Taiyo Electric generator with 480 kW power, as well as an emergency generator with a Deutz diesel engine with 114 kW power and a Taiyo Electric generator 100 kW power drives.

The ships have four holds closed with folding hatch covers . The cargo holds are box-shaped, only cargo hold 1 tapers slightly in the front area.

Hatch 1 is 14 × 12.6 meters, hatches 2 and 3 each 21 × 17.6 meters and hatch 4 is 12.6 × 17.6 meters. The rooms are 9.91 meters high and have forward and backward Unterstaudach . The capacity of the cargo holds is 17,311 m³ for bulk goods (room 1: 3,234 m³, room 2: 5,321 m³, room 3: 5,439 m³, room 4: 3,317 m³) and 16,841 m³ for general cargo (room 1: 3,131 m³, room 2: 5,177 m³, room 3: 5,293 m³, room 4: 3,240 m³). The hatch covers can be loaded with 1.8 t / m², the tank cover with 20 t / m².

The deck superstructures are located in the rear of the ships. A free-fall lifeboat is located behind the superstructures .
