Vegetative characteristics

The red-flowered exuberant flower is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 25 to 50 centimeters. The upright, almost bare stem is unbranched or not very branched from the ground up.

The leaves are arranged alternately. The basal leaves are divided into a 2 to 10 centimeter long petiole and leaf blade. The leaf blade of the double-pinnate basal leaves is ovate or narrow-elliptical with a length of 4 to 8 centimeters and a width of 2.5 to 4 centimeters . The lower lateral leaf sections are five-part, the upper are triangular, elliptical or narrow-elliptical. The leaf surfaces are sparsely hairy or hairless. The stem leaves, similar to the basal leaves, are sessile or have a short stalk. The leaves below the flower heads are small, pinnate, or simple.

Generative characteristics

The cup-shaped inflorescences are individually terminal on the stems. The envelope (involucre) is cup-shaped with a diameter of 1 to 1.5 centimeters. Which are arranged in four rows husks have a trockenhäutigen brown edge, the outer at a length of about 3.5 millimeters lanceolate and bare on the bottom or are hairy sparse fluffy and the inner middle to a length of about 5 millimeters or elliptically linear-inverted-lanceolate and bare on the underside. The red ray-florets have a narrow, elliptical tongue that is 1.6 centimeters long and ends with two or three teeth. The two branches of the style are linear.

The achenes are about 2.5 millimeters long. In the 0.1 to 0.2 millimeter long pappus, the edges are flat, hardly discernible lobed.

Flowering time and fruits occur in China from May to October.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.

distribution

use

Varieties of the red-flowered exuberant flower are also used as an ornamental plant outside the region of origin.

Similar to the Dalmatian insect flower, the insecticide pyrethrum is obtained from the red-flowered exuberance . The names Caucasian and Persian insect powder are used for the insecticide.
