action

After the death of his parents and his return from Iraq, Ty Hackett started working for the company "Eagle Shield Security" as an employee for armed cash transport. After work, his colleagues tell him about historical robberies on money transporters.

Due to some mortgages on his house and a visit to the youth welfare office, which wants to withdraw custody of his brother Jimmy, Ty urgently needs more money. His godfather and colleague Mike Cochrane finally persuades him to participate in a "robbery" on their own money transport. However, Ty insists that nobody gets injured because he doesn't want to go to jail.

The coup starts the next morning. After a routine report to the security company, Ty, Cochrane, Baines, Quinn, Palmer and Dobbs drive the two vans with 42 million US dollars to a disused steel factory. This is where the money will be temporarily stored and the vehicles will then be burned. After the first truck is unloaded, Quinn notices a homeless man watching the group through a broken window. After a short chase, Baines shoots the man down. Ty tries to get the injured man on the van to take him to a doctor, but Cochrane shoots the homeless man on the grounds that there is no other way out. Ty barricades himself in the car with the remaining $ 21 million, from where he can still set off the transporter's alarm system before Cochrane destroys the car's electronics. The police officer Jake Eckhart, who is currently near the steel factory, hears the alarm and decides to conduct a check.

Cochrane can stop Eckhard in front of the factory and pretends to be a security guard. Shortly before Eckhard wants to leave the premises again, Ty can short-circuit the electronics and the alarm sounds again. On the spur of the moment, Baines shoots the officer down. While the friends are discussing how to deal with the new situation, Ty can get the injured Eckhard into the truck and provide first aid. Outside, the decision is made to remove the hinges from the doors in order to kill Ty. In the meantime, Dobbs also comes to the conclusion that the whole operation is going wrong and is convinced by Ty to help him. However, he is caught by the others and a short time later he is stabbed by Palmer.

The others keep trying to remove the hinges. Meanwhile, Ty discovers the possibility of escaping through the bottom of the van. He takes Eckhard's radio and promises to come back. Ty makes it to the roof of the factory and can send a call for help. Before he can go back to the vehicle, however, Palmer faces him with a gun in hand. After a short conversation, Palmer voluntarily jumps from the roof to his death in despair, since for him his deeds are incompatible with God.

Ty sneaks back into the van. Meanwhile, Cochrane has sent Quinn to Ty's house to bring his little brother Jimmy into the factory as leverage. Now that Cochrane has Jimmy hostage and threatens him with a gun, Ty gives up and leaves the van. Quinn and Baines pounce on the money in the van. However, Ty has previously placed an explosive device on the money, which explodes when the money case is opened, destroys the money and kills the two drivers.

Ty then brings his brother and the cop to safety, but is then chased by Cochrane in the remaining money transporter. The truck gets stuck in a hole in the floor and overturns. Ty finds the seriously injured Cochrane, but can no longer prevent his death.

Ty later sits in the hospital waiting room and meets his boss Ashcroft there. Contrary to his expectations of being released and arrested, the boss announces a reward for preventing a crime.

criticism

“As time goes by, everyone's desperation increases. Cochrane furrows his face with his fingers. Every incident makes them more determined. There is little talk, decisions are sometimes made in silence, and anyone can be suspicious. The threat of annihilation lies above every attitude, paralyzing and panicking at the same time. Conclusion: Nimrod Antal creates breathtaking tension in this action thriller with a rare emotional density. "

“John McTiernan's“ Die Hard ”scenario is varied here, admittedly not quite as spectacularly, but respectable despite a relatively modest budget. ... Antal consistently focuses on action, constructs a clean arc of suspense and largely dispenses with unnecessary dramaturgical gimmicks. The bad boys can be categorized according to the genre, Matt Dillon (“LA Crash”) acts ruthlessly and cunningly, Jean Reno (“Leon - Der Profi”) is meek and cool, and furiously muscleman Laurence Fishburne (“Matrix”), crazy ex- Knacki Amaury Nolasco (“Transformers”) and neurotic Skeet Ulrich (“Scream!”). The latter listens to the role name Dobbs, as Humphrey Bogart once did in John Huston's classic “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” - and envy, mistrust and greed broke the dream of big money. "

"Exciting thriller in a chamber-style staging that impressively highlights the moral conflict between personal integrity and group pressure, conscience and profitability."
