Arne Arvidsson (born January 19, 1929 in Långshyttan , † in October 2008 ) was a Swedish football player . The goalkeeper , who played for the Swedish national team for years , won three championship titles in Sweden with Djurgårdens IF .

Life

Arvidsson started playing football at Långhyttas AIK . In 1952 he moved to the Stockholm club Djurgårdens IF, for which he made his debut in the Allsvenskan in the same year and established himself as a regular goalkeeper. He made the people in charge of the Swedish national team aware of himself through good performances, so that he made his first appearance in September 1954 on the occasion of a 1-1 draw against the Norwegian national team at the side of Nils-Åke Sandell , Orvar Bergmark and Kurt Hamrin National jersey came.

With the club team around Sigvard Parling , Gösta Sandberg and Karl-Erik Andersson , Arvidsson dominated the Swedish championship in the first division season 1954/55 . With 27 goals conceded and thus the best defense, he decisively contributed to Halmstads BK being four points behind as runner-up at the end of the season. Nevertheless, he could not replace Kalle Svensson as the goalkeeper of the national team, but remained behind him a substitute, who came only irregularly to games. In the following years, Tore Svensson and the second division player Ingemar Haraldsson , who were appointed as substitutes in the squad for the 1958 World Cup , moved increasingly to the fore .

Arvidsson had established himself with his club after winning the first championship in the front division, the team repeated the title win in the 1959 season . With only one loss of the season, the club distanced IFK Norrköping and IFK Göteborg by one point . At the same time, the goalkeeper played his way back into the national team, in which Bengt Nyholm had appeared as a new competitor. The rival initially won the regular place, not least because Arvidsson, as the reigning champion, was relegated to the second division with his club . He also remained loyal to DIF in Division 2 and managed to get promoted again with the club. When the first division returned, he belonged to players like Leif Skiöld or Leif Eriksson to the pillars of the team, which as second in the table behind IFK Norrköping just missed the renewed championship win. So he played his way back to the national team, in which he established himself as a regular goalkeeper in the autumn of the following year.

In the 1964 season , Arvidsson triumphed again with the club when three teams ended the season tied in one of the closest championship races. On the last day of the match, a penalty goal by his club-mate Bernt Andersson decided the title race in the final minute, as the goal difference was one goal better than the competitor Malmö FF , who were equal on points and on goal . The Gothenburg rival Örgryte IS was also equal on points, but had a significantly worse goal difference. In October of the following year he said goodbye to active football with an eighth place in the table after 241 Allsvenskan games for Djurgårdens IF. Arvidsson also played in 27 internationals for the Swedish national team and was also in 13 B internationals in the Swedish goal.
