Art Malik

Art Malik (born November 13, 1952 in Bahawalpur , Punjab , Pakistan ; actually Athar Ul-Haque Malik ) is a British actor .

Life

Malik was born the son of Zaibunisa and Mazhar Ul-Haque Malik, a doctor who shortly after received his license to practice as a surgeon in England . Art Malik therefore moved to London with his parents and four older brothers in 1956, where he also went to school. He later won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama . Shortly afterwards he played at the Old Vic and the Royal Shakespeare Company Theaters, including Shakespeare's Othello .

Mainly known to the British audience, he has been known since 1982 when he played a leading role as the young Indian Hari Kumar in the television series The Jewel of the Crown (based on "The Jewel in the Crown" by Paul Scott ). Malik played a major supporting role in 1987 as the Afghan mujahideen ally of Timothy Dalton as James Bond in the film The Living Daylights . In 1994 he played the villain Salim Abu Aziz as an opponent of Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies . He then played in several British television series, e.g. B. from 2003 to 2005 in the long-running series Holby City . In 2010 he played a supporting role in the film Wolfman . In 2011, Malik starred in the role of Francesc Gacet in the television series Borgia .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Malik lives with his wife Gina Rowe, with whom he has been married since 1980, and their two daughters in the London borough of Surbiton .
