Arthur Alfred Sinnott

Arthur Alfred Sinnott (born February 22, 1877 in Crapaud , Prince Edward Island , Canada , † April 18, 1954 in Winnipeg ) was a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Winnipeg .

Life

Arthur Alfred Sinnott attended Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown and St. Dustan's College . In 1896 he entered the Seminary of Montreal , where the Catholic theology and canon law studied. Sinnott obtained a degree in canon law in Rome in 1899 . He received in the February 18, 1900 Chapel of the Pontifical Canadian College by Curia Archbishop Edmund Stonor the sacrament of Holy Orders .

From 1901 Arthur Alfred Sinnott taught at St. Dustan's College . Two years later he became the private secretary of the Apostolic Delegate in Canada, Archbishop Donato Raffaele Sbarretti Tazza .

On December 9, 1915, Pope Benedict XV appointed him . to the first Archbishop of Winnipeg. The Apostolic Delegate in Canada, Pellegrino Francesco Stagni OSM , donated him episcopal ordination on September 21, 1916 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Ottawa , Charles Hugh Gauthier , and the Bishop of Calgary , John Thomas McNally . The inauguration took place on December 24, 1916.

Pope Pius XII accepted on January 14, 1952 the resignation put forward by Arthur Alfred Sinnott and appointed him titular Archbishop of Sebastea .
