Seldom has a racing driver been so closely connected to a racetrack as the Belgian Arthur Legat was with the Chimay track . Legat contested his first race in Chimay in 1926 and thirty years later he was still at the start there. The dangerous street course near the French border was a magical draw for amateur racers. Legat won the Chimay Grand Prix des Frontiéres twice, in 1931 and 1932 at the wheel of a Bugatti Type 37 . In total, he competed 25 times in this race.
After the Second World War , Legat bought a Veritas Meteor , with which he competed in the Belgian Grand Prix in 1952 and 1953. In 1952 he was not classified because he was five laps behind, and in 1953 he retired after a defect in the power transmission.
