Artur Pommerenke

Artur Pommerenke (born October 29, 1925 in Köslin ; † June 25, 2018 ) was a German party functionary of the GDR block party NDPD . From 1953 to 1990 he was chairman of the NDPD district committee in Rostock .

Life

Pommerenke attended elementary school and did military service during the Second World War from 1943 to 1945 as SS-Oberscharführer in the SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 35 in the 16th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Reichsführer SS" and was deployed in France and Italy . After his captivity in 1945 he worked as a kitchen assistant in a Hamburg restaurant. He finally moved to the Soviet occupation zone , attended a course for new teachers and worked as a teacher and director of a school in Stavenhagen . In 1949 he joined the National Democratic Party of Germany (NDPD), participated in the establishment of party units and in 1950 became an employee of the Mecklenburg State Ministry of Education. In the same year he became a member of the NDPD state board of Mecklenburg and a full-time party functionary. From 1951 to 1952 he was department head for political studies, cultural and personnel policy in the state executive. After the administrative reform in July 1952, he became political manager of the newly created NDPD district association Rostock. When the first district assembly of the GDR was constituted on July 29, 1952 in Rostock , he entered the Rostock District Assembly as a member and was a member of it until German reunification . He was thus the longest-serving member of a district assembly in the GDR. In the district day he was temporarily chairman of the standing commission for cultural mass work. In 1953 he succeeded Georg André as chairman of the NDPD district association in Rostock and held this position until 1990. He completed a distance learning course at the Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg with a degree in political science . In 1969 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1955 to 1990 he was a member of the NDPD main committee and from 1963 to 1972 a member of the party executive committee, the party's highest governing body. From 1977 to 1990 he was a member of the party control commission of the NDPD. After the reunification in the GDR , he became a member of the Society for the Protection of Civil Rights and Human Dignity .

Pommerenke last lived in Rostock. He died at the age of 92 and was buried in Rostock's New Cemetery.
