The Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic (abbreviation AsSSR ; Azerbaijani Азәрбайҹан Совет Сосиалист Республикасы / Azərbaycan Sovet Sosialist Respublikası ; Russian Азербайджанская Советская Социалистическая Республика Aserbaidschanskaja Sovetskaya Sozialistitscheskaja Respublika ) existed from 1920 to 1991 and was from the foundation of the Soviet Union in 1922 one of its republics .
development
The predecessor of the Union Republic was the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan , which was dissolved on April 28, 1920 . The Azerbaijani SSR was part of the Transcaucasian SFSR from March 12, 1922 until its dissolution December 5, 1936 . The Nakhichevan Autonomous SSR and the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region were located on the territory of the AsSSR . In 1991 it declared its independence as Azerbaijan .
The Azerbaijani SSR was awarded a total of five orders, including three orders of Lenin .
On December 1, 1982, the asteroid (2698) Azerbajdzhan was named after the Soviet Republic.
