(2698) Azerbajdzhan is an asteroid of the main middle belt , which was discovered on October 11, 1971 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095). The asteroid had already been sighted on April 26, 1952 under the provisional designation 1952 HC 3 at the McDonald Observatory in Texas and on October 9, 1958 (1958 TQ 1 ) at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory .

The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 14.765 km (± 0.178).

The asteroid's period of rotation was investigated by a team from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute , Indiana , using images taken between January 16 and 21, 2012 with the 50 cm Ritchey-Chrétien telescope at the Oakley Southern Sky Observatory in Coonabarabran , New South Wales . The analyzes showed a rotation period of 27.20 (± 0.05) hours.

(2698) Azerbajdzhan was named on December 1, 1982 after the Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Republic .
