Aschau im Burgenland is a part of the municipality Oberschützen in Burgenland in the district of Oberwart ( Austria ).

history

The settlement of the place probably began around 1200, at which time the construction of Bernstein Castle began. It was first mentioned in a document in 1388 under the name "ASSO". The name Aschau probably originated from "Eschenau" or "Eschenort", which indicates that there was a strong ash growth in the place. From 1659 to 1854, the village was part of the Pinkafeld rule for most of the time . Aschau has been part of the Oberschützen community since 1971.

Aschau is located in the hill country, in the foothills of the " Bucklige Welt ", west of Bernstein between the diving and Willersbach valleys.

Aschau has about 407 residents with a Protestant majority. The area of ​​the place is around 774 ha , of which the forest takes up 303 ha. Aschau is a so-called Breitangerdorf and is about 600 m above sea level.

  • Sankt-Oswald-Kapelle: One of the oldest architectural monuments in the Oberwart district. Ship foundations, perhaps Carolingian (8th century). Gothic choir from the 15th century, nave with gable facade and roof turret were built in 1773. Altar from the late 17th century, between columns a picture of St. Oswald. 2 angel figures on the entablature. Wooden pulpit from the 19th century, crucifix with corpus from the 17th century. at the triumphal arch. Door leaf in the west portal with box lock, around 1780. Original Hodiser paving stone. - Bell with inscription from the 15th century. - Complete restoration inside and outside in 1975.
