Asii Chemnitz Narup (born June 27, 1954 in Nuuk ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Inuit Ataqatigiit ) and social worker .

Life

Asii Chemnitz Narup is the daughter of the Dane Kaj Magnus Narup (1926–1997) and the Greenlander Margrethe Marie Tabea Chemnitz (1930–?). Her father worked as a merchant in Greenland and was one of the few Danes in Grønlands Landsråd . About him she is three eighths of Danish and one eighth of Crimean Jewish descent. On her father's side, she is the 2nd cousin of the actor Martin Miehe-Renard (* 1956). Her mother comes from the important Chemnitz family in Greenland. Her mother's siblings include the women's rights activist Guldborg Chemnitz (1919–2003), the general manager Jørgen Chemnitz (1923–2001) and the politician Lars Chemnitz (1925–2006). The women's rights activist Gudrun Chemnitz (1928–2004) was her aunt by marriage. Her maternal grandparents were the Provincial Councilor Jørgen Chemnitz (1890–1956) and the women's rights activist Kathrine Chemnitz nee. Josefsen (1894–1978). She is married to the musician and writer Juaaka Lyberth (* 1952) and has adopted a son and a daughter from South Korea with him .

In 1981 Asii Chemnitz Narup was trained as a social worker. Until 1989 she studied cultural and social sciences at the University of Greenland and then worked in various social fields. From 1981 to 1986 she worked at the co-founded women's crisis center Nuuk (Nuummi Arnat Suleqatigiit) . In 1986 she was Chair of the Greenland Alcohol Council. From 1993 to 1997 she was on the school board of Ukaliusap Atuarfia in Nuuk. She is active in a large number of other committees and foundations and has written several social science textbooks and textbooks in the 1990s.

She first became politically active when she was a deputy on the Nuuk Municipality Council from 1992 to 1993 .

In 1999 she was first elected to the Inatsisartut . After re-elections in 2002 and 2005, she did not run again in 2009 because she was elected mayor of the new Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq . In 2003 she became Minister for Family and Health in Naalakkersuisut and in 2005 Minister for Health and the Environment before resigning in 2006. In 2007 she was appointed vice party chairman. She was also able to win the local elections in 2013 and 2017, so that in the end she was the only female mayor who had been in office since the administrative reform in 2009.

In May 2019, Danmarks Radio broadcast a documentary about child abuse in Tasiilaq , which sparked a political discussion and ultimately led to Demokraatit dissolving the ten-year coalition with the IA in the communeqarfik Sermersooq because of the poor work of the mayor. Asii had previously criticized the fact that the Democrats continued to support Kim Kielsen's minority government from Siumut and Nunatta Qitornai . On June 11, Asii Chemnitz Narup resigned as mayor. Charlotte Ludvigsen was elected as her successor .

On December 30th, 2015 she was awarded the Nersornaat in silver. In 2012 she had already been appointed knight 1st class of the Dannebrog Order.
