Sidra Museum in Astigarraga

Astigarraga is a town with 6532 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the province of Gipuzkoa in the Basque Autonomous Community in Spain . The city is known for the production of Sidra (cider) and hosts numerous Sidrerien and a Cider Museum.

Astigarraga is located in the north of the province of Gipuzkoa on the right bank of the Urumea on the slopes of Mount Santiagomendi. The city adjoins the city of Donostia-San Sebastián to the south and borders Errenteria to the east and Hernani to the south .

history

Excavations at Santiagomendi show that there was a settlement in Astigarraga about 2000 years ago during the time of the Roman Empire .

The current settlement existed from the Middle Ages, in 1660 Astigarraga became an independently administered municipality. With the incorporation of Murguía, Astigarraga reached its current size in 1840. In September 1941 it was decided to incorporate Astigarraga into San Sebastián, which was finally implemented in 1943. After the end of the Franco dictatorship , a referendum was held in Astigarraga on December 30, 1984, in which 91% of the population voted to restore the pre-1941 status. Since June 30, 1987 Astigarraga is again an independent municipality.

Infrastructure

Astigarraga is to get a station on the new Basque Y line , construction is scheduled to start in 2020. At Astigarraga, the autopista AP-8 ( Autopista del Cantábrico ) and the Autovía A-15 ( Autovía de Navarra ) intersect .
