Astrid Kofler

Astrid Kofler (born May 1, 1965 in Bozen ) is a South Tyrolean journalist , filmmaker and writer .

Life

Kofler graduated from the humanistic high school "Walther von der Vogelweide" in Bozen . She completed her studies in German and theater studies at the University of Vienna with a thesis on the Tristan of Gottfried von Strasbourg, submitted in 1989 . After internships in journalism in Berlin, Munich, London and Bolzano, she passed the state journalism examination in Rome. She has been working as a journalist and author since 1992, and since 1998 as a freelance primarily as a filmmaker. She trained as a clown and is co-founder of the Krah forum theater.

One focus at the beginning of her journalistic career was art reviews in the daily newspaper Dolomiten , living reports and designer portraits in the magazines Ambiente (D), Elle Decoration (D), Wohnen (A), Turris Babel (Bozen, South Tyrol). As a filmmaker, Kofler has stimulated the discussion of topics of South Tyrolean contemporary and social history with numerous documentary films for the Bolzano broadcaster of the Radiotelevisione Italiana broadcasting company and for ORF . One focus is the role of women (women under fascism, in the years of bombing in South Tyrol, in war, Muslim women in South Tyrol, the last servants and maids). She works regularly with cameraman and producer Helmut Lechthaler on the theater magazine “Spielzeit” (the former “Theatergugger”) and on the series “Character Heads” (including portraits of Hans Glauber , Sandro Canestrini , Egon Kühebacher , Herbert Rosendorfer , Cuno Tarfusser , Valentin Braitenberg , Hanspeter Demetz , Egmont Jenny , Raffael Kostner, Gerhard Kofler ).

After having designed the series about cemeteries in South Tyrol for years, she is now in charge of the series "Wunder Hexen Geister - Magische Platz im Südtirol". She directs u. a. the magazine program she initiated on the Bolzano broadcaster of Radiotelevisione Italiana Dialog - the social magazine . Together with Hans Karl Peterlini , she was a South Tyrolean participant in the 1998 exhibition “Sehnsucht Heimat” in the Hall in Hall salt warehouse .

In 2003 she addressed the displeasure against the Iraq war with the exhibition “Pace / Peace / Pesc” at the Free University of Bozen in Bozen (in collaboration with the Munich photographer Reinhard Frick). In 2003 her first book "Zersprengtes Leben" (Zersprengtes Leben) appeared about women in the bombing years in South Tyrol. In 2007 she took part in the performance of the Freistaat Burgstein artist group on the fringes of the Venice Biennale with the art event “Haiku (h) s” . At the state exhibition "Labyrinth :: Freedom" at the Fortezza Fortress in 2009 she was represented with several projects. In 2010 her first novel Lebenskörner was published .

Awards

In 1989, Kofler received the 2nd (only awarded) prize in the prose competition of the South Tyrolean Authors' Circle. In 1996 she interrupted her career for a five-month stay in a mission station in South Africa. For the documentary “Farmers of the Mountains. In the footsteps of the heirs of loneliness ”, she and cameraman Günther Neumair received an award at the 2004 Mountain Film Festival in Trento. In 2011 Astrid Kofler received the Walther von der Vogelweide Prize for her literary and cinematic work. Several films were shown at the Bolzano Film Days and at the Tegernsee Mountain Film Festival. In 2015, she spent a month in Paliano (Rome) as part of an artist grant from the Austrian Cultural Forum.
