Hans Karl Peterlini (born March 12, 1961 in Bozen ) is a university professor for general education and intercultural education at the University of Klagenfurt as well as a journalist and author from South Tyrol who is interested in contemporary history and education .

Life

Peterlini grew up in the South Tyrolean Unterland and passed the humanistic Matura in Bozen. He is the brother of the politician Oskar Peterlini .

Peterlini gained his first professional experience from a young age in South Tyrolean journalism, first with the daily newspaper Dolomiten . In 1982 he switched to the Südtiroler Wochenmagazin ff , where he became editor-in-chief in 1990. As a result of a media-political dispute over freedom of expression, he founded a South Tyrolean edition of Profil magazine with Hubertus Czernin and the Lentsch family . After Czernin was dismissed as profile editor as a result of a cover with Franz Vranitzky as the naked emperor, the Austrian co-owner withdrew from the project in 1996, and the Südtirol Profil was converted into the Neue Südtiroler Tageszeitung . Peterlini worked for several years as a freelancer in the cultural and publishing sectors until he returned to ff in 1999 as editor-in-chief and responsible director . Parallel to his journalistic work, Peterlini dealt in depth with the risks of violence and opportunities for pacification in recent South Tyrolean contemporary history, combined with the question of how people can outgrow their cultural patterns and ethnic hostilities. This resulted in his first books on South Tyrolean terrorism as well as the generation portrait We children of the South Tyrolean autonomy . From 2003 to 2004, in addition to managing the ff, he was also editor-in-chief of the short-lived daily newspaper Südtirol 24h . In 2004 Peterlini withdrew from magazine journalism and studied pedagogy with a psychoanalytic focus at the University of Innsbruck in order to rework his main topics from a scientific position. His diploma thesis, The Explosion of Power and Powerlessness , submitted in 2006, examined psychoanalytically the motives behind the attacks in South Tyrol from 1961 to 1988. The degree was followed by additional academic training (psychotherapeutic propaedeutic, interpersonal communication and coaching). In 2010 he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Education at the Free University of Bolzano with a dissertation on the subject of home as a condensation of political identity in South Tyrol, which was also published in Italian under the title Capire l'altro (Understanding the Other). In 2014, he achieved learning and power with the habilitation thesis submitted in Innsbruck . Paradigms of education in school, culture, politics, the qualification to teach in educational sciences and learning research . In the 2014/2015 academic year, he was appointed to the Chair of General Educational Science and Intercultural Education at the Institute for Educational Science and Educational Research at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt .

The examination of the causes and possibilities of coping with political, social and culturally related conflicts using the example of South Tyrol was reflected, in addition to the numerous publications, also in theater and cultural projects, for example in the plays Heimat (1999, Theater in der Altstadt, Meran) and Regen über Land (Theater an der Etsch, 2010) and the forum theater projects Who saves the heroes? (2010) and Mez per Sort (2012). Together with Marion Piffer (for art) and Bernhard Kathan (for objects), Peterlini (short stories) was the curator of the national exhibition Labyrinth :: Freedom at the Fortezza Fortress in 2009 . The focus in recent publications is based on a phenomenological understanding of personal and social "learning as experience" in societies that are shaped by ethnic plurality and migration. In the network of vignette and anecdote research , Peterlini has expanded this special method of phenomenological learning and educational research beyond its original field of application of the school to include socio-spatial issues. In 2020, with the work areas General Educational Science and Diversity Education, School Pedagogy and Historical Educational Research as well as the Center for Peace Research and Peace Education at the University of Klagenfurt, he developed the master's degree "Diversity Education in School and Society", which is new in Austria.
