Astrid Walenta (* 1964 in Vienna ) is an Austrian children's book author , theater maker and musician .

Life

Astrid Walenta grew up in Burgenland . After finishing school, she moved to Vienna, where she trained as a tourist and later an export clerk. After a few years in business, including in France , she switched to the artistic field. From 1994 she played percussion , trained as a clown woman (among others with Pierre Byland), did street theater at various festivals and formed the cabaret / comedy duo Das A & O with Michaela Obertscheider from 1999 to 2004 . In 2002 she developed a solo program for a poem by Jacques Prévert ( le balayeur ), directed by Markus Kupferblum and the composition by Lisi Naske, and developed the mobile narrative theater nasreddine moves through the city with Theresita Colloredo as Nasreddine .

From 1999 onwards she devoted herself, among other things, to the work of the Russian writer Daniil Charms , whose texts inspired her and Katrin Wölger to create a series of short films ( charming miniatures ), performances and installations. In 2008–2011, the two maintained a Daniil Charms Club , through which they wanted to spread the oeuvre of the master of the absurd. The collaboration with Maria Hubinger began in 2005 and has so far resulted in four children's books. On the basis of the books, CDs were later produced in collaboration with Lorenz Raab , Christi Riedl, Emily Smejkal and Marlene Lacherstorfer. The encounter with Berlin-based illustrator Julia Dürr has resulted in two books since 2018.

From 2007–2009 Astrid Walenta moderated a musical cycle for three to six year old children as Agathe in the Wiener Musikverein .

Walenta has been the driving force behind the music group esmeraldas taxi since 2009 . On the first CD , released in 2009, which is entitled Maybe! is out, hits, chansons and jazz standards will be reinterpreted by Caterina Valente . In 2015 the CD Li * BLiNGSiNG was created! , on which the ensemble's favorite songs and first original compositions can be found. In 2018 the CD SPRING! , with cover versions and own songs with guest musicians Ali Angerer, Richard Oesterreicher , Herbie Kopitar and Lorenz Raab.

She holds her musical readings - often accompanied by musicians - in Austria, Germany, South Tyrol and Switzerland.

She is a member of the German Friedrich Bödecker Circle .

Astrid Walenta lives with her family in Vienna, where she has been caring for chronically and seriously ill children and adults since 1995 as a clini clown .
