Atte Engren (born February 19, 1988 in Rauma ) is a Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with Helsingfors IFK from the Liiga since August 2017 .

Career

Atte Engren began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Lukko Rauma , for whose U18 and U20 juniors he was active between 2004 and 2008. At the same time, the goalkeeper made his professional ice hockey debut for Finland's U20 national team in the 2006/07 season , which participated as a visiting team in the second-rate Mestis . In addition, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the seventh round as a total of 204 players by the Nashville Predators , but initially stayed in his Finnish homeland. In the 2007/08 season he was for the first time in the SM-liiga for Lukko Rauma between the posts, for which he also completed a game as a loaner for the second division Hokki Kajaani . However, he spent the entire rest of the season with Lukko's U20 juniors.

For the 2008/09 season Engren moved within the SM-liiga to TPS Turku , for which he played six times in the SM-liiga in his first year. At the same time, he was runner-up with the U20 juniors from TPS from the Jr. A SM-liiga in the corresponding age group and played five games on loan for Kiekko-Vantaa in the Mestis. In the 2009/10 season , the former Finnish junior international was able to prevail in the professional team of TPS and led his team as a regular goalkeeper next to the American David Leggio to win the Finnish championship . During his 35 main round appearances, he had an average of 2.63 goals per game with a catch rate of 92 percent. In his eight playoff appearances, he was even able to improve again and only allowed an average of 1.82 goals per game with a catch rate of 93.5 percent. As a reward for his good performance, he was elected to the All-Star Team of the SM-liiga and he received the Urpo-Ylönen trophy as the best goalkeeper in the league.

In the 2010/11 season , Engren initially took part in the European Trophy with TPS Turku in preparation for the season. In the quarterfinals he and his team were eliminated from the eventual champions Eisbären Berlin . In the subsequent main round of the SM-liiga, he was able to significantly increase the number of his season assignments compared to the previous year. At the end of March 2011, he was ordered to North America by his draft team Nashville Predators, with whom he had signed a two-year contract the previous year, and by the end of the season played in four games for their farm team Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League . He also played for Milwaukee in the AHL in the 2011/12 season before returning to TPS Turku in May 2012.

In May 2013 Engren was signed by HC Lev Prague and reached the play-off final with the Czech KHL participant. After the club's withdrawal before the 2014/15 season, Engren moved internally to Atlant Moskovskaya Oblast , where he was a regular goalkeeper and played 56 KHL games. Due to financial problems, Atlant withdrew from the game operations after the 2014/15 season and Engren moved to HK Spartak Moscow , who took over Atlants starting place.

International

For Finland , Engren took part in the 2006 U18 World Junior Championship . In this he achieved with his team the win of the silver medal, whereby he remained as a substitute goalkeeper behind Riku Helenius without use.

At the Men's World Cup in 2013 , he was the third goalkeeper in the Finnish national team, but was not used.
