Audrey Esparza (born March 4, 1986 in Laredo, Texas) is an American actress , best known for her role as FBI agent Tasha Zapata in the American television series Blindspot .

life and career

Audrey Esparza was born in Laredo, a city in the US state of Texas on the border with Mexico . Her family has Mexican roots and close ties to the town of Nuevo Laredo on the opposite bank of the Rio Grande . As a result, she grew up bilingual and speaks fluent English and Spanish. She learned to dance at the age of two and later studied at an acting school for high school students at Yale University . When she was 18, she moved to Manhattan to study experimental theater at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University .

Prior to television, Esparza appeared in more than a dozen plays in off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway theaters. These include, for example, the plays Underneath My Bed , directed by Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) and Post No Bills at the Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, as well as productions at the INTAR Theater , The Lark , Repertorio Español and Theater Wing in New York City .

Her television career began in 2011 with small roles in television films, from 2013 also in series. Since 2014, she has received recurring roles in the series Power (3 episodes), Black Box (12 episodes) and Public Morals (3 episodes). Since 2015 she has played a leading role in the series Blindspot as FBI agent Natasha "Tasha" Zapata.
