Am Schäfflerbach is the name for the tenth of a total of 42 statistical districts in the Bavarian city of Augsburg . It is named after the Lech Canal Schäfflerbach . On December 31, 2013, around 8,300 people lived here on an area of ​​2.23 km².

The city district - starting in the north and then following east to south and west - is made up of Lechhauser Strasse, Lech , Reichenberger Strasse, the track of the Localbahn , Lotzbeckstrasse, Prinzstrasse, Remboldstrasse and Forsterstrasse and finally Jakoberwallstrasse limited. Am Schäfflerbach encompasses a large part of the Augsburg textile district with the Proviantbach district , a factory settlement from the 19th century. In addition to the Schäfflerbach , the Proviantbach , the Fichtel and the Hanreibach also flow through the city district .

history

The city district, together with parts of the Wolfram and Herrenbach districts, was known as the “Ostend” district until 1938. Subsequently, the city district was named after the Lech Canal Schäfflerbach in the course of the reorganization of the Augsburg districts. The quarter was characterized by the textile industry from the start.

Demographics

As of December 31, 2013, 8,304 people were registered in the municipality, of whom 4,048 were female - this corresponds to a female share of 48.75 percent. As in the city as a whole, the age distribution does not correspond to the ideal of a “ pyramid ”: 4,081 inhabitants, or 52.9 percent, were over 40 years old at the same time. The district of Am Schäfflerbach has one of the highest proportions of foreigners in Augsburg: at 27.42 percent (2,277 people) it is well above the average for the entire city (16.2 percent).
