geography

Borough

The Wolfram and Herrenbachviertel - starting in the west and then following clockwise - is bordered by Rembold-, Prinz- and Lotzbeckstraße, the railway body of the Augsburger Localbahn , Reichenberger Straße, Lech and Friedberger Straße. The city district borders in the north on the Schäfflerbach , in the east on Hochzoll-Nord , in the south on the Spickel and in the west on the train station and Bismarck district as well as the Lechviertel with the eastern Ulrichsviertel . Part of the textile district is in the corridor of the district.

Herrenbachviertel

The Don Bosco Church in the Herrenbachviertel

The eastern part of the city district is named after the Herrenbach , a Lech Canal in Augsburg . Up until the 1950s, it was mainly nurseries that could be found here. These were replaced by large residential complexes in the 1960s. They were built in the course of the planning of a satellite town and still shape the quarter significantly. The Don Bosco Church designed by Thomas Wechs also dates from this period . The Schwabencenter with its high-rise buildings up to 64 meters high was built as a residential and shopping center on the southern border of the district to supply the residents . It opened in 1971 as Augsburg's first shopping center.

Wolfram Quarter

The western part of the district is named after the former Mayor of Augsburg, Georg von Wolfram , during whose term of office a “city within the city” was created, especially for workers in the Augsburg textile industry. In addition to simple residential buildings, churches, schools and kindergartens were also built here.
