geography

Although the "Rosenau and Thelottviertel" belongs to the Pfersee planning area, it was part of the Fuggerstadt even before the incorporation of the 20th century, as a result of which Pfersee also came to Augsburg, which can easily be seen from the location east of the Wertach Canal and Wertach - the border to Pfersee - lets see. To the west, the district is bounded by the railway tracks of the main station and the Antonsviertel . Göggingen joins it in the south, while the borders taper to the north.

Rosenauviertel

Main article: Augsburg-Rosenauviertel

The Rosenauviertel takes its name from the field name "Rosenau", which is derived from the "Rössen", former water arms of the Wertach. The name became known across Germany primarily through the sports stadium of the same name, although, strictly speaking, it is located in the Thelottviertel.

Thelottviertel

Main article: Augsburg-Thelottviertel

The Thelottviertel was planned and built by the architect Sebastian Buchegger between 1905 and 1929 as the first garden suburb in Germany and survived the Second World War almost unscathed despite its proximity to the main train station. Most of the buildings that were already described as architecturally exemplary at the time of construction are now under monument or ensemble protection .

Attractions

  • The Schwaben Architecture Museum , a branch of the Architecture Museum of the Technical University of Munich , is housed in the listed villa of the Buchegger family of architects and serves as an exhibition and event location for all areas of architecture.
  • The Rosenaustadion was opened on September 16, 1951 and was especially important for German football and international athletics until the opening of the Olympic Stadium in Munich. The FC Augsburg was there until mid-2009 its home games.
  • The Wertach power plant was built in 1921 to supply power to the Augsburg tram. The Wertach Canal was created for this purpose .
