Attractions
- Augsburg Central Station was built from 1843 to 1846 by the architect Friedrich Bürklein and is today the oldest station building in a major German city that is still in operation in its original state. As part of the main station mobility hub project , the station will be significantly rebuilt and expanded over the next few years.
- The synagogue was built between 1914 and 1917 by the architects Fritz Landauer and Heinrich Lömpel and is characterized by elements of Art Nouveau combined with neo-Byzantine and orientalizing details. Although it was set on fire during the November pogroms on November 10, 1938, the synagogue was preserved as the fire was extinguished because of the risk of spreading to an adjacent bank and gas station. The building was renovated from 1976 to 1984 and expanded to include a Jewish culture museum in 1985.
