August Wildt (painter)

August Wildt (born June 3, 1882 in Linden near Hanover ; † November 22, 1963 in Hanover) was a German art and church painter and restorer , especially of wall paintings in churches .

Life

August Wildt enrolled at the Technical University of Hanover in 1904 without specifying his subjects . After the outbreak of World War I , Wildt did military service from 1915 to 1919 . In 1923 he married Anna, widowed Krug, née Flitter. August Wildt probably joined the white sheet as a member of the Bauhütte in 1925 or 1926 . Soon after, in 1928, he began a short training course with Friedrich Koch in the restoration workshop of the then Prussian Provincial Museum in Hanover . Also around 1928, Wildt accepted the position of teacher for materials science and technology at the Hanover School of Applied Arts , where he worked in the “decorative painter” department. In the immediate post-war period , Wildt worked primarily as a restorer in Hanover.

  • before 1930: restoration or painting in the church of Gödringen near Sarstedt and in Adelebsen
  • 1930–1935: Restoration of the painting in the old church in Idensen near Wunstorf
  • 1937: Repairs to the paintwork on the nave of the Luther Church in the northern part of Hanover; later painted over uniformly yellow
  • 1938: Uncovering and taking breaks as well as photographs of the wall paintings of the market church in Goslar
  • 1938: Remaining exposure and restoration of the wall paintings in the church in Apelern
  • 1939–1940: Painting of the choir of the church in Kathrinhagen near Auetal
