August von Dassel

August Ludwig Hartwig von Dassel (born May 18, 1784 in Lüneburg ; † June 12, 1868 there ) was a Prussian major general.

Life

origin

August was the son of the praetor and treasurer of Lüneburg Georg David von Dassel (1748–1798) and his wife Dorothea von Töbing (1762–1813). The politician Johann von Dassel was his brother.

Military career

Dassel joined the Prussian Army's 27th Infantry Regiment as a private corporal in 1798 and was promoted to secondary lieutenant until mid-September 1805 . In the Fourth Coalition War he was wounded near Lübeck and in 1807 was placed in the "von Schachtmeyer" fusilier battalion.

On May 27, 1811 Dassel was transferred to the normal infantry battalion as prime lieutenant . There he was on 30 December 1811 staff captain and adjutant of the lieutenant colonel of Czarnowsky. In the same position he worked from March 11, 1812 for Colonel von Borstell. In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he was aggregated to the Pomeranian Hussar Regiment on February 6, 1813 . Dassel fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig and Ligny as well as in the battles near Gadebusch, Marzahne, Tournay and the blockades of Valenciennes and Conde. At Ligny, he earned the Iron Cross, 2nd class. During that time he was promoted to Rittmeister on August 30, 1814 and transferred to the Rhenish Landwehr Cavalry Regiment on May 14, 1815.

After the war he joined the 8th Dragoon Regiment on July 12, 1816, as a squadron chief . On September 24, 1820, he left with 300 thalers waiting allowance. On February 22nd, 1822 he was approached again and commissioned with the remont purchase . On December 3, 1832 he was promoted to major and came as President to the Remonte Buying Commission in the Marche. On July 5, 1833, he was aggregated to the 6th Cuirassier Regiment. On January 18, 1834, he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus, Class II, and on January 18, 1838, the Order of the Red Eagle, Class IV. On April 7, 1842 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 22, 1843 to colonel. Dassel gave up his position on April 4, 1847 and on June 8, 1847 he got his departure with the character of major general and a pension . He died on June 12, 1868 in Lüneburg.

family

Dassel married on August 25, 1816 in Zichlau Luise von Alvensleben (1787–1846), a daughter of District Administrator Johann Friedrich VII. Von Alvensleben . The couple had several daughters:

  • Johanne Elisabeth Amalie Luise Auguste Agnes (1817–1878) ⚭ 1839 Alfons von Gagern (1806–1868), son of Lieutenant General Hans Karl Adam von Gagern
  • Henriette Ernestine Karoline Auguste Luice Luise Thekla (1819–1891), canon of the Medingen Monastery
  • Katharine Luise Auguste Matilde (* / † 1823)
