origin

His parents were Wilhelm Friedrich von dem Knesebeck (* 1737; † around 1779) and his wife Magarethe Juliane, born von Hattorf (* April 24, 1747; † February 17, 1809). His father was the heir to Corvin, Böhme Klein-Eilstorf and Hethorm as well as chief captain in Mecklenburg-Strelitz .

Career

After the death of his father, the mother devoted herself to bringing up the children in her parents' house. Knesebeck joined the 11th Infantry Regiment as an ensign on May 18, 1790 , but was immediately transferred to the knights' academy in Brandenburg an der Havel . On July 26, 1795, he was transferred to the life guards as prime lieutenant . During the First Coalition War he fought with the regiment in Flanders , fought in the battle of Famars and before Nijmegen .

On June 4, 1801 Knesebeck was Rittmeister . After the French invasion and the Artlenburg Convention , he went to the King's German Legion . He came on October 16, 1803 as a captain in the 1st Dragoons Regiment. But on September 7, 1810, like Albrecht von Estorff (1766–1840), he left the Legion. He was to take over the inheritance after the death of his mother, otherwise the French occupation threatened to confiscate everything. He refused the offer to enter Westphalian services, but in 1811 he became Mayor of the Walsrode Office .

During the Wars of Liberation in 1813 he was captured by a Cossack patrol and taken to General Wallmoden . He immediately took him on as a major and sent him to the newly formed Bremen-Verdi Hussar Regiment. However, he was only used directly in the battle of Sehestedt on December 10, 1813 with the unit he commanded.

On March 28, 1814 he became lieutenant colonel and commander of the Landwehr regiment in Celle. On August 21, 1820 he was elected administrator of the St. Michaelis monastery in Lüneburg , so left the army as a colonel. On May 26, 1840, he was promoted to major general in celebration of his 50th anniversary in service. He died on December 10, 1842 in Lüneburg.
