Auguste Wilbrandt-Baudius
Auguste Wilbrandt-Baudius , née Auguste Baudius (born June 1, 1843 in Zwickau or Leipzig , † March 30, 1937 in Vienna ) was a German-Austrian actress.
Life
Auguste Baudius received her first artistic lessons from her adoptive father, the actor Karl Friedrich Baudius . With his support, she made a successful debut at the Old Theater in Leipzig in 1858 as "Julia" . She then made a guest appearance in Dresden and was then engaged as a young lover in Breslau .
Already in April 1861 Heinrich Laube was appointed to the Burgtheater in Vienna , Baudius was a first lover of comedy and drama until 1878, then he retired and devoted himself exclusively to guest performances. On June 24, 1873, she married the writer and director of the Vienna Burgtheater Adolf von Wilbrandt in Vienna . In addition to many other roles, she also played in the plays of her husband and her artistic director Eduard von Bauernfeld , as the roles were often written specifically for her.
In 1889 Wilbrandt-Baudius went to the Theater an der Wien and achieved a sensational success there on October 4th of the same year as the “Polish Countess”. In 1893 she moved to the newly opened Raimund Theater , in 1898 she returned to the Vienna Burgtheater. In addition to her acting activities, she went on lecture tours and was also active as a writer.
Auguste Wilbrandt-Baudius died in Vienna on March 30, 1937, at the age of almost 94, and found her final resting place in Vienna's central cemetery . Her grave of honor donated by the City of Vienna is in group 32 C, number 13.

Quote
Heinrich Laube reports in his "History of the Burgtheater":
- I went out to look for a young lover and found the "Winkelschreiber" (Adolf von Wilbrandt) with her in Breslau. This title, which was completely new to me, was on the theater bill and under its personal figure there was a Fraulein Baudius, whom I wanted to see.
- The latter was not easy for me; I watched act by act and she didn't appear, the play had four acts and the fourth act was coming to an end and she didn't appear. It was natural that the piece should be too long for me.
- I occupied it while watching and deleted a whole act while watching, then came the final scene and finally also Fraulein Baudius with the extraordinary and shy exclamations "My father!" Able to judge a youthful lover by two words. Figure, gait, fine countenance, beautiful eyes and the sound of these two words was enough for me and I came back to Vienna with a new commitment and a new piece .
