history

Before the takeover by MBB SE

The Aumann company goes back to a company founded by Willy Aumann in Berlin in 1936. In the 1940s to 1960s Willy Aumann KG registered numerous patents for winding and wire enamelling machines. In 1951 the company moved to Espelkamp . The US subsidiary Aumann North America Inc. ( Aumann Winding and Automation Inc. since 2017 ) was established in 1982. In 2006, Aumann bought ATS Berlin (later Aumann Berlin GmbH ) and organized the existing companies under the umbrella of the Aumann Winding and Automation Group .

MBB Fertigungstechnik GmbH , which was later merged with Aumann, passed in 2012 from the agricultural technology group Claas to the ownership of the holding company MBB SE . It was founded in 1968 in Harsewinkel under the name Claas Fertigungstechnik GmbH as a toolmaking specialist of the Claas Group and has been manufacturing welding and assembly systems for the automotive industry in Beelen since 1992.

From 2015

In 2015, MBB SE took over 75% of the shares in Aumann Winding and Automation Group . In the following year, the holding company restructured its mechanical engineering capacities. In the course of this, MBB Technologies GmbH was converted into Aumann AG , under whose roof the companies previously belonging to the Aumann Group with MBB Fertigungstechnik GmbH and MBB Technologies (China) Ltd., founded in 2013 . were summarized. In 2016, MBB also bought the remaining 25% of Aumann's shares.

In 2017, Aumann took over the Saxon USK Karl Utz Sondermaschinen GmbH from the Swiss Utz Group , which has been operating under the name Aumann Limbach-Oberfrohna GmbH since 2019 .

Business activity

Aumann has locations in Beelen, Espelkamp, Limbach-Oberfrohna and Berlin as well as in Clayton , Missouri (USA) and Changzhou (China). The group divides its business into the segments E-Mobility and Classic.

Electromobility segment

The business in the electromobility segment is centered around winding machines for the production of coils , which are used as stators or rotors in electric vehicle drives and in auxiliary motors for the electrification of other functions in vehicles. The company produces machines for different winding techniques ( linear winding , flyer winding , needle winding , conventional or continuous hairpin). In addition, wire enamelling machines are manufactured which cover the copper wire intended for the manufacture of coils with an insulating layer.

Furthermore, Aumann designs and builds complex automated manufacturing and assembly systems for the series production of components of electric and hybrid drive trains, in particular electric motors, fuel cells and battery modules, sensors, control electronics and gearboxes. In addition to the winding and wire enamelling machines, the company also installs machines that weld, solder, bend and insulation displacement as required , as well as measuring and testing technology and technology for the automatic handling of components.

Aumann's offering also includes product-related services such as maintenance, repairs and the supply of spare parts.

In 2018, the company generated around 36% of its sales in the electromobility segment . This is also where the strongest growth is recorded.

Classic segment

For the classic automotive industry, the aerospace industry and for manufacturers of rail vehicle and agricultural technology, Aumann develops and builds machines and production systems for the production of electric motors (e.g. for pumps and fans), drive components in combustion engines (e.g. assembled camshafts and camshaft modules, assembled cylinder activation and deactivation modules , components for valve control systems ) and lightweight structural components for vehicle bodies, as well as assembly systems for transmissions, electronic brake modules and other vehicle components.

Automated production and assembly systems are also designed and built for the medical technology, cleantech and consumer goods industries, in particular for manufacturers of household appliances and entertainment electronics.

The supplementary services in the Classic segment include maintenance, repair and spare parts supply as well as prototype development and first and small series part production.
