German Entrepreneurial Index

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Entrepreneurial Index ( GEX ) is a share index that has been calculated and published by Deutsche Börse since January 3, 2005 as a performance index and as a price index.

The GEX was developed and assembled by the "Center for Entrepreneurial and Financials Studies" ("CEFS") at the Technical University of Munich .

This index is intended to reflect the development of the shares in owner-managed German companies . The GEX lists the German companies from the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange that have been listed for a maximum of ten years and are managed by their owners. The owners must have at least 25 percent and a maximum of 75 percent of the shares and be significantly represented on the management board and the supervisory board. Therefore, only shares with voting rights, i.e. ordinary shares, are taken into account.

1000 was calculated as the base value for July 30, 2004. In the period from June 2002 to September 2004, the recalculated GEX outperformed the DAX , TecDAX and SDAX . In the three-year period 2010 to 2012, however, the GEX lost 41% of its value, while the DAX rose by 25%. The number of listed companies fell from around 120 at the beginning to 35 by 2013 and a further decrease to 19 by 2018.

The decisive selection criteria for the inclusion of a share in the GEX are the ownership structure and the length of time it has been part of the capital market. The weighting of the shares in the GEX is calculated according to the market capitalization of the freely tradable shares and is reviewed quarterly. The share of a value in the GEX is limited to a maximum of ten percent.
