The Wrocław-Południe motorway junction ( Polish : Węzeł autostradowy Wrocław-Południe ) is located southwest of the Polish city of Wrocław ( German : Breslau ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship . It connects the Polish motorways A4 , A8 and the expressway expressway S8 and represents the third largest motorway junction in Poland .

history

The motorway junction was planned and built as part of the first stage of the Wroclaw motorway bypass . On October 16, 2008, the construction contract between GDDKiA and the construction company Budimex was signed. In addition to the construction of the junction, it was decided to build a 14.5 km long section of the Wroclaw motorway bypass . The construction costs were set at around 780 million zlotys . The entire completion was initially planned by December 2010. However, due to the floods in Central Europe in 2010 , construction delays occurred , so that the entire completion of the section and the motorway junction was impossible by the end of 2010. For this reason, the first half of the cross with the first seven-kilometer section was released on December 30, 2010. The remaining construction work was extended until May 2011. The second section and the rest of the motorway junction were handed over to traffic on May 5, 2011. Although the node was already completed at that time, it was not navigable in all directions. From both directions of the A4 motorway , it was impossible to take the A8 motorway towards Wroclaw. The reason for this lay with the Polish authorities who, for fear of traffic jams in downtown Wroclaw , as the Wroclaw motorway bypass had not yet been completed, closed the two exits on the A4 motorway. But it was possible to take in the opposite direction of the expressway S8 and the next, about four kilometers away junction Kobierzyce which direction to go. The closure of the exits was lifted after the handover of the entire Wroclaw motorway bypass on August 31, 2011.

Current status

After the opening of the Wroclaw motorway bypass on August 31, 2011, the junction is accessible in all directions.

The following directions are available:

Others

The knot is made up of half a clover leaf and half a turbine . With four connecting ramps and four bridge structures , it is the largest and most important motorway junction along the Wroclaw motorway bypass . In the planning documents the cross is still called Węzeł autostradowy Nowa Wieś Wrocławska . This name was initially changed to Węzeł autostradowy Wrocław when numerous motorway junctions along the A8 motorway were renamed on November 27, 2010 . After that, however, the final name Węzeł autostradowy Wrocław-Południe was enforced. According to GDDKiA, the terms should be easier to understand and link to motorists who come from outside the region.
